The photographs contained in this site represent several years of work. I began with the city of Chicago–the city of neighborhoods–and in that time photographed nearly all of those neighborhoods. From there, the project branched out into other locations. At first, these places were cities and towns around the Midwest. Then I explored farther away–to the northeast, the south, the Plains and the west coast. Some of the larger cities photographed across the continental U.S. thus far include: Boston, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, Atlanta, Tampa, Denver, Kansas City, Saint Louis, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. Eventually, I ventured as far away as Hawaii, Madrid, Tokyo, Delhi, Barcelona, Paris and Hong Kong.

In total, the work in the 'case study' portion of the website on Chicago amounts to over 10,500 photographs. Around the U.S., the database includes over 7,000 more photos and counting. From the other cities around the world, a few thousand more photos. In total, this database houses over 20,000.

As interesting and challenging (in a number of ways) as this work has been for me, a time came when I needed a hiatus from the project.  For the most part, I did not actively photograph during 2009 and 2010.  Now, I have returned to the project.  While I have left the city of Chicago where this project began, and thus concluded the detailed photographic work that this part of the project involved, I am continuing with the work in other cities and towns around the U.S. and around the world.  I do not have an agenda that involves regular (monthly or quarterly) updates, as in the past.  But I do plan to add to the project over time as work schedules allow.  Please check back on occasion to see what's new.
